High 5!

Updated: Oct 12

We got Ozil! (...against Bournemouth that is!)

Arsenal 5 - 1 Bournemouth

More midweek fun as Arsenal followed up the win against The Saints with a home match against those away day specialists AFC Bournemouth. I say specialists, as in specialists in leaking goals, so a lot was expected from Arsenal at the Emirates.

The team news saw Emery opt for five defenders in the starting line up, with the big North London derby in mind a bit of rotation was applied. Lacazette and Ramsey rested, "living the dream" Jenkinson and Ozil getting a rare start..... Still, five defenders against Bournemouth, #WTF

Arsenal: Leno, Jenkinson, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Kolasinac, Guendouzi, Torreira, Mkhitaryan, Ozil, Aubameyang

The Match

It took only six minutes for Bournemouth to implode, all that prematch work going up in smoke as Kolasinac played a first time ball to Ozil who was unmarked. The German drove into the box and in his inimitable style clipped the ball beyond Boruc to make it 1-0. It was one of those shots Mesut likes to punch into the ground to fool the keeper, a special skill from the German playmaker, Mesut had turned up!....against Bournemouth....ahem!

What followed this great start was disappointing, Bournemouth realising the game was already under threat immediately changed formation and Arsenal failed to react to it. Fraser going close for the visitors as they grew in confidence. Maybe they could get at this fragile Arsenal side? Oh hold on, we still can't defend.... oops..2-0 Arsenal!

Just when it looked that Bournemouth might start to trouble the Gunners they imploded once more, giving the ball away cheaply at the back. Mkhitaryan picking it up and playing it to Ozil who immediately returned the ball to the Armenian, who then finished first time to double the lead.

Floodgates?

Er No!

Arsenal hit the self-destruct bottom minutes later as once again Guendouzi took too long collecting a ball out of defence. Was he fouled? maybe, but there was no reaction and a simple tap in for Bournemouth followed, 2-1 and another stupid sloppy goal to add to all the others conceded this season, that's a horror catalogue fit for Halloween!

HT 2-1, much to ponder, but not need to hit the panic button just yet!

As per the first it didn't take Bournemouth long to implode, just two minutes this time. A bodged free kick routine between Mesut and Jenkinson finally found Mkhitaryan who played the ball across the box, Koscielny met it as the ball crept over the line, Aubameyang made sure but the goal was given to the captain. 3-1 and surely game over!

Bournemouth huffed and hit hit the bar but the game was put completely to bed in the 59th minute as Mkhitaryan picked the ball up deep in the Arsenal half, and drove forward before playing a perfect pass through to Aubameyang who rounded the keeper and made it 4-1.

There was till time for Lacazette to show the home crowd his skills from a dead ball situation. Who knew?

Curling in number five from the edge of the box with ten minutes to go, a quiet lovely finish to cap a very strong display all round.

Despite another good save from Leno and a scary looking injury to Koscielny that was that.

POSITIVES: The pace and power of the performance.

NEGATIVES: Sloppy clean sheet to give away.
