Arsenal 2-0 Man Utd
United in town as Ole Gunnar and his newly generated red devils arrived for a Sunday afternoon kick off at The Emirates. ManUre, a team so poor under Jose now suddenly storming into the top four and scraping unbelievable results in Europe, a team drunk on confidence lining up against a team that struggled against a mid-table french side.
The team news saw Unai go big and go large! A confident attacking line up with Ozil, Lacazette, Ramsey and Aubameyang all making the starting eleven, with a back three and Maitland Niles given the job down the right!
Arsenal: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Ramsey, Ozil, Lacazette, Aubameyang
An early high press and good possession from Arsenal was nearly ruined in the ninth minute as United got down the left, AMN switching off and not tracking Shaw, the cross finding Lukaku unmarked at the back post, his shot coming off the bar.(Easier to score than miss that one). Maitland-Niles was struggling early on, unable to get forward and constantly switching off behind him, however the rest of the team were building some momentum.
Two minutes later, Arsenal took the lead from an unlikely source. Xhaka Can! a shot from the Swiss international from way out took a swerve and completely flummoxed De Gea sending him in the wrong direction. Great strike but if that was Leno, I think I would be disappointed, however 1-0 to The Arsenal it was!
United continued to threaten on the break, Fred going close with a shot from outside the box that hit the post and Xhaka put in a good last ditch challenge on Rashford but Arsenal always seemed to be in control of proceedings whilst playing some really good football, albeit with not really making De Gea move too much.
The second half started with Man Utd pushing high up the pitch and making Leno make great saves again when Lukaku really should have scored. Maitland Niles had come out with more focus, putting in some great tackles, Ramsey was running everywhere and Kolasinac did so much work he..... well he kind of give up last nights Lemoncello!
The next goal was going to be key, If Arsenal got it they would probably hold on for a win, ManUtd equalised the feeling was they probably would have forced the win. Luckily for Arsenal Fred decided to trip Lacazette when free in the Utd box, some may call it soft but he did make contact, so it's a penalty for sure!
I must admit feeling a bit squiffy when Aubameyang put the ball down on the spot, score and last weeks disaster against Spurs could be forgotten, miss and they could send the guy to a dark place.
I needn't had worried. Aubameyang doing that 'not looking at the ball' thing, waited for De Gea to move and placed the ball the other side of him. Risky but lovely.
2-0 to Arsenal!
That broke ManUtd and with Iwobi and Suarez coming on to give the team some extra legs the game turned into Arsenal playing on the break, beating Ole at his own game, Suarez in particular giving a great cameo.
FT 2-0! and a great day with Tottenham drawing got so much better. Into the back four and beyond!
