Sending the faithful Bate!

Updated: Oct 12

Bate Borisov 1-0 Arsenal

The Europa league returned with a splodge as Arsenal made the trip too Bate Borisov, a team already put to the sword by eight goals over two legs last season and a team that hadn't played in about 5 weeks due to winter breaks. A win by sum margin was expected and a squad was sent with that in mind, Ozil included. However young Mesut was soon the big story as he was left out of the startling line up, a case of...

See no Ozil. Hear no Ozil. Speak no Ozil!

The 29 year old last seen heading into an arcade on the outskirts of town...

Despite this omission the team was still way too strong for Borisov, although many eye brows were raised at the defensive formation.

Arsenal: Cech, Koscielny, Mustafi, Monreal, Maitland-Niles, Guendouzi, Xhaka, Kolasinac, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Lacazette

"Three centre backs against this lot?"

The Match

Face palm, the end!

Is it worth going over the missed chances in the first 15 minutes? Mykitaryan guilty as charged with an absolute sitter, or more worryingly should I highlight the labourious nature of the Arsenal play using the same old trick of Kolasinac on the over lap, should that not work, play the ball from left to right and back again, and see if it works this time!

Terrible stuff from a team that used to pass a team to death before producing a bit of Wengerball and a goal of the season contender. The goal for Borisov from a set piece after a stupid challenge by Monreal, headed in as Kolasinac failed to jump with his man. Keown in the BT studio finding words too much for this horror show of defending.

1-0 at half-time and despite changes and formation moves in the second half it got no better, where was that creative spark in midfield? Sat playing Minecraft somewhere! A situation now becoming so toxic it's effecting how this team plays and reacts to situations, Arsenal couldn't muster a response to going 1-0 down to a team of amateurs from Belarus with Alexander Hleb (remember him) still plying his trade in midfield! Lacazette finally snapping with minutes remaining, defending on the halfway line, which is a bizarre situation for a striker to be in, and under heavy pressure, young Alexandre threw an elbow and saw red!

Adding salt to the wound, but pretty much summing Arsenal up on the night!

Final score 1-0.

A desperate result and performance, one where you don't just question the players application but the Managers motivation as well. #worryingtimes

NEGATIVES: Everything

Player Ratings:

They don't deserve any!

Next up a chance to actually turn up in the second leg, probably with Mesut as captain and a 5.55pm K.O (that'll be a push, expect plenty of late comers!).
